Chinese based automobile manufacturer launched the longest electric bus the world has ever witnessed which is headed to Columbia.
The Xi’an based Chinese manufacturer on April 1, 2019, launched the longest electric bus called the K12A. The magnificent bus is eighty eight feet long with the capacity to carry two hundred and fifty people at once. The bi-articulated electric bus resembles a red giant caterpillar which can reach the maximum speed of 40 MPH and has the capability to travel up to two hundred miles with a single charge. The bus on April 2, 2019, headed to Columbia to involve in the country’s TransMilenio bus rapid transit system (BRT).
The BYD Company officially tweeted “#BYD just launched the world’s longest #BatteryElectric bus! (This is no #AprilFools Joke)” on April 1, 2019. The company claims that the bus is equipped with 4WD system which has the ability to switch between 4WD and 2WD whenever required without any problem to run from rugged terrains to smooth surfaces. The system also enables the electric bus to lower energy consumption of the vehicle overall. The K12A has an aluminum body with batteries and electronic motors fitted by BYD Company.
Stella Li, Senior Vice President of BYD stated, “Today, BYD once again uses its core technology, reliable products and innovative solutions to solve the two great urban ills of congestion and pollution.” The novel innovative electric bus promises zero emissions allowing the passengers to enjoy their pollution free ride, thus saving time and also reducing maintenance and operational costs. In January 2019, BYD unveiled world’s largest double decker bus fitted with electrical batteries and motors. The company has manufactured around 50, 000 electric buses in the past 9 years.
